ENVIRONMENTAL & SOCIAL GOVERNANCE

ENVIRONMENTAL & SOCIAL GOVERNANCE

Cruinn Diagnostics is continuously working towards implementing Environmental Social Governance (ESG) initiatives to improve its overall sustainability and ethical performance.

For us, ESG is important in identifying and managing risks, improving social responsibility, enhancing long-term sustainability, and navigating / complying with regulations. This includes initiatives to reduce waste, save energy, lower costs, promote employee wellbeing, and promote equality in the workplace.

As part of its ESG journey, Cruinn has adopted relevant Sustainability Development Goals (SDG’s) from the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

SDG THREE

Good Health & Well-being

SUSTAINABILITY DEVELOPMENT GOALS

The 3 SDG’s adopted by Cruinn Diagnostics are

  1. SDG3 (Good health and wellbeing),
  2. SDG4 (Quality Education), &
  3. SDG5 (Gender Equality).

SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being

Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.

At Cruinn, we promote healthy eating habits by providing a plentiful variety of seasonal fruit in the canteen every Monday morning.  Cruinn Diagnostics also provides access to the LAYA Healthcare Employee Assistance Program (EAP) which provides employees with confidential access to mental health support and includes resources and support for managing work-life balance, including advice on family matters, financial planning, and legal issues.

SDG 4 - Quality Education

Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Cruinn Diagnostics recognises that education is a powerful tool for social and economic development, and participates in the National Work Experience programme. This programme offers work experience opportunities to students in local schools in the hope that the experience will encourage lifelong learning.

Cruinn departments participating in this programme include the laboratory and calibration departments, further promoting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. This initiative aligns with SDG 4 by increasing the skills set of youth within the community and allowing students to explore an interest across different areas in order to encourage commitment to further education.

In addition, wherever possible, training and upskilling in-house is encouraged.

SDG 5: GENDER EQUALITY

Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

Cruinn Diagnostics is committed to workplace equality by promoting equal opportunities in hiring, career advancement, and leadership roles.

In 2024, the board of directors welcomed its first female director, appointing Emma Casey to the challenging role of Sales Director within the company.

Further to work on SDG 3, SDG 4 and SDG 5, Cruinn is also working towards sustainability practices in resource efficiency, renewable energy adoption, and local community supports.

  • Our carbon footprint is monitored, and offers the option of electric and hybrid vehicles to employees.
  • The Bike to Work Scheme and Tax Saver public transport tickets are also encouraged.
  • Energy efficient lighting with motion sensors, heating, ventilation and cooling systems are used.
  • Recycling occurs across many different methods from in house (separate bins and monitoring of waste levels) to recycling of customer waste (recycling of Starlab pipette boxes for use in garden fences and reuse of obsoleted equipment parts).
  • Cruinn is a self-compliant member of Repak and WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment).
  • Cruinn supports local communities through donations and supporting charity events (support local children’s charities and hospitals).
  • Supports local sports clubs, for example the Summer Camp in Ballyboden St Enda’s GAA club for children aged 5-12 years.
